Transport and Directions to and from Honolulu Airport

From Honolulu Airport, you can take the public bus operated by the official public bus transportation company entitled TheBus.
There is also a shuttle that can take you from the Honolulu Airport directly to your acommodation while an official taxi service is also available, consisting in an Airport Open Taxi Management system contracted by AMPCO Express.

There is an official taxi service provided by AMPCO Express at the Honolulu Airport which means that it’s completely safe to get on one and get to your destination in Honolulu. You can recognize the taxi dispatchers by their uniforms: green shirts and yellow “Taxi Dispatcher” labels.The taxi service can be found right across the baggage claim areas in the terminal.

From Honolulu Airport to Waikiki, the fare for the taxi costs between $35 and $40. Keep in mind that no more than four people can get in the taxi at the same time and all taxis run a meter. Renting a car in Honolulu isn’t necessary considering that you can reach the majority of tourist attractions by walking. In addition to this, there are limited parking places in Honolulu which is why it might turn out to be quite stressful to find a parking spot for the rental car.

Parking fees are also quite expensive. There are several car rental companies that have offices at the Honolulu Airport terminal but hiring a car directly from there can be less expensive than renting a car in Waikiki for example.

There is an official public bus company in Honolulu, serving the entire island of O’ahu, Hawaii, which is called TheBus. The public bus stop is located in front of the the Departures level.

You can take one of the following buses: 19, 20 and 31. The bus #19 will take you from the Honolulu Airport to Pearlridge Center while bus #20 takes you to Hickam AFB and bus #31 connects the Honolulu Airport with the Tripler Army Medical Center through the Kalihi Transit Center.

The fare for an adult is $2.50 and for youth the cost of a ticket is only $1.25.

Honolulu Airport Shuttle

The SpeediShuttle is a service that will take you right to your acommodation. You can find the shuttle stops at the Baggage Claims C, H, between Baggage Claim D and E and at the Commuter Terminal. It’s easy to recognize the staff of SpeediShuttle by their uniforms.

The fares vary depending on the area in Honolulu that you want to go to. For example, from Honolulu to Waikiki, a one way ticket costs around $14.55.

You can take two bags and one carry-on with you for no charge but if you have more bags than that, you will have to pay $8 for each extra bag. Booking round trips guarantees you a discount so you should consider getting that kind of ticket.
